The institute has excellent connectivity, situated 75 km from the major railway station Pathankot and 108 km from Dharamshala, ensuring seamless access for students and faculty alike.

Established in 2007 under the Department of Technical Education, Vocational & Industrial Training by Government of Himachal Pradesh. The institute embarked on its academic journey with a clear mission to empower the region through engineering education. It initially launched two three-year diploma engineering programs—Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering—each with an intake of 40 students. The institute's foundational years were spent in a rented NHPC building at Padhar, Banikhet; however, in a landmark moment of growth and self-reliance, the institute transitioned to its newly constructed, state-of-the-art permanent campus in Village Kanda in July 2017. This shift marked a new chapter, providing the institution with the infrastructural autonomy needed to expand its horizons.
